VDS Racing Mustang on pole for 12H of Hungary

Hungaroring (May 21st , 2011) – The VDS Racing Adventures team posted the overall fastest laptime in qualifying in their Ford Mustang and is starting from pole-position for the fourth running of the 12H of Hungary that will be run this Sunday. Benjamin Bailly set a fastest time of 1.57.119 (134.663 km/h) on the challenging Hungaroring during the 75 minute long qualifying session in the VDS Mustang that he shares with fellow Belgians Julien Schroyen and team-owner Raphaël van der Straten. The event is organised by Dutch promoters Creventic and started under excellent weather conditions, partly due to a date change from its original date in fall. It will be an all Belgian front row for the race as second quickest overall was the Porsche 997 entered by the Speedlover Team. Starting from third position is the Red Camel-Jordans.nl Audi R8.

Temperatures were still mild (24° Celsius), when qualifying for the 12 hours race for GT’s, touring cars and endurance specials started at 7.30 pm. James Emmet was the first to put in a quick lap of 1.58.170 in the André van Hoof entered Speedlover Porsche, a time that kept them on top of the leader board for most of the qualifying session. But at the very end of the session it was the VDS Racing Mustang that took pole in 1.57.119 in the hands of Belgian youngster Benjamin Bailly: “We were fairly happy with the car and satisfied with qualifying in second place, but I felt that there was at least one more second in the car. Team owner Raphaël van der Straten then told me to go out and have a go at it. I pulled it off with just seconds to go!”

Quickest in the closely contested A3T category was the Dutch Team Jordans.nl Saker sportscar with a time of 2.01.726 followed by the Povey Motorsport BMW M3 E46 (2.02.292) and the Monlau Competición Seat Leon Supercopa (2.02.473). The diesel powered Saker was best in class for most of the session and its best lap time was set by Ton Verkoelen: “It was my teammates Henk Thijssen and Monny Krant who did the setup of the car but I was able to do our quickest lap. It was not as fast as last year’s time but so far we haven’t run on new tyres yet.”

Fastest qualifying time in the third category for this race (A2) was set by Martin Sally in the Danish Team Sally Racing Renault (Cup) Clio, a car he shares with Martin Gotche, Peter Obel and Andreas Schroder. The same car temporarily stopped qualifying during last years 12H Hungary event because of a crash, but now ran trouble free all day. Martin Sally: “The track was a bit slippery but in qualifying we still managed to run 0.3 seconds quicker than last year.”

The Hungary 12 hour race will start at 10 am on Sunday.
